Join our PREPARE FOR SOCIAL CARE course and take the first step towards a fulfilling career as a Residential Care Worker, Social Care Worker, or Youth Worker.
The social care sector is a vital part of our community, providing support and care to individuals of all ages. Whether you're helping children, young people, or adults, your role will be crucial in improving their quality of life and promoting their well-being. Our comprehensive 6-week programme runs 3 days a week, providing you with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the social care sector.
The training will take place at the Health & Social Care Career Academy, Bickerstaffe House, Bickerstaffe Square, 1 Talbot Road, Blackpool, FY 1 3AH.
Is this course for me?
This programme is for people aged 19 and over who are seeking to gain qualifications within the fundamentals of Social Care. You will also need to complete a basic entry assessment, and we will invite you to have an informal discussion with the course tutor.
Qualification Obtained
NCFE L1 Award in Caring for Children Gain comprehensive knowledge and essential skills needed to care for children and young people, including their growth, learning, and development.
NCFE L1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care, and Children's and Young People's Settings Develop a thorough understanding of the various types of provision within the Health, Social Care, and Children’s and Young People’s sectors.
NCFE L1 Certificate in Wellbeing Explore a wide range of well-being topics and understand their impact on individuals and communities.

Prepare2Care Programme
Interested in training and gaining qualifications with direct access to employers who have job vacancies? The Prepare2Care Programme could be for you. This 6-week training programme is available to anyone who is wanting to work in the sector and is over the age of 19 years. If you are unemployed, you may be eligible for support with cost for travel and childcare costs too.
The course runs for 3 days per week Monday - Wednesday 9.30am - 2.30pm, for 6 weeks.
The training is delivered at the Health and Social Care Career Academy at Bickerstaffe House.
If you have empathy, compassion and you enjoy working with people, the Prepare2Care programme is for you.
What you will learn:
Level 1 Award in Personal and Social Development - This qualification aims to develop essential skills for life and work. Covering a range of topics, including healthy living, managing social relationships, and preparation for work.
Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children's and Young People's Settings - This qualification aims to develop knowledge and awareness of various provisions in the Health, Social Care, and Children’s and Young People’s sectors, covering roles from principles and values to health and safety, ultimately supporting career progression and employment opportunities in these fields.
Level 1 Certificate in Well-Being - This qualification aims to enhance understanding and knowledge of various well-being topics, to comprehend the impact of lifestyle choices and make informed, healthy decisions.
There is support if you require childcare and a bus pass if you live more than 1.5 miles away from the academy at Bickerstaffe House. You may also be eligible for a bursary with 90% course attendance.
We provide a free fruit breakfast.
